“One Health in Practice in Southeast Asia” Steering Committee

The steering committee of the “One Health in Practice in Southeast Asia” OHSEA project met on September 7, 2022

After an introduction by Mr. Laurent Toulouse, Deputy Director of Higher Education and Research (MEAE), recalling the main objectives of the FSPI One Health in Practice in Southeast Asia, a presentation of the last months of implementation (January to August 2022), as well as of the next steps was made, including a brief budgetary statement. Mr. Toulouse stressed the importance of close coordination between the French actors involved in the project (IRD, CIRAD, Réseau Pasteur, ANRS|MIE, CNRS), a dimension to which the Department is particularly attached.

This was also an opportunity to recall that this project is a first step in structuring a research community with a view to implementing actions under the PREZODE initiative launched at the One Planet Summit in January 2021. The articulation with other French initiatives in the region in the field of health (Franco-Indian Campus, other FSPI projects under development, International Technical Experts “One Health”, “Health Research” and “ASEAN”) was also highlighted. After addressing the challenges faced by the office members during the first few months, the activities could actually start in January 2022 (administrative start of the project on March 18, 2021).

The committee then made the following recommendations:

  • Present to the next Steering Committee (March 2023) the leverage effects of this FSPI, in order to ensure in particular the articulation and coordination with other ongoing projects and initiatives and possible future projects such as the FSPI One Health and Media.
  • Ensure the link between the Prezode Initiative and ACPHEED (the Secretariat Office of the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases) to build bridges between these two programs and identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Develop a list of contacts and stakeholders who have worked on this FSPI to share with co-pil members and the research community.
  • To structure an offer from the French research community to respond to the needs identified in the area on the One Health aspects (e.g. mobilization of technical experts on a key theme) and to be able to position itself on calls for grants.

Valorization, communication and capitalization

An important effort was made on the communication and valorization aspects.

Short videos presenting the projects were shown during the session.
