In order to promote their research programs on the One Health approach, the project leaders participated in pitch training sessions. This eight-week training enabled them to develop their scientific communication skills.
The scientists’ speeches will then be broadcast at the United Nations General Assembly Science Summit in September 2022. Each pitch will be in the form of a pre-recorded video (see below).
The activities began on Wednesday, June 15 with a group workshop on general concepts of science communication and the specifics of the science pitch. They continued in July and August with individual coaching sessions to work on each specific project. After a group feedback session at the end of August, all videos will be recorded and compiled for the event.
Dr Eugenia Covernton, a virologist by training and a trainer in science communication for students and researchers for many years, hosts the training and coaching sessions. She is also the CEO of a non-profit NGO called “Lecturers Without Borders” that organizes science outreach activities in schools around the world.
