Call for proposal

This call, financed by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs is co-led by the French National Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD), the Center for International Cooperation in Agricultural Research for Development (CIRAD) and the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). It is also supported by the Francophone University Agency in Asia-Pacific (AUF).

Southeast Asia is a global hotspot of biodiversity crisis and threatened cultural diversity. Neglected tropical diseases are still a heavy burden for the countries in the region where numerous zoonotic diseases have emerged in recent decades (including Southeast China). Cross-border health risks are considered most serious with the development of economic corridors and their integration into the new silk roads network.

The Covid-19 pandemic highlights the failure of current strategies to anticipate zoonotic epidemics. The One Health approach is still poorly implemented, with still little consideration of ecosystem health, despite it is promoted by international organisations (UNEP, UNESCO, OIE, FAO, WHO).

The main purpose of the call is to support small projects adopting a One Health approach to understand zoonoses in the context of environmental changes in Southeast Asia. Particular attention will be given to initiatives exploring emerging topics and favouring a multi-disciplinary approach. The call can support the organisation of fieldwork studies involving stakeholders and/or any other relevant activities.
