One Health in practice in South-East Asia: Zoonoses and socio-environmental changes (2021-2023)

Implemented by CIRAD and IRD, the aim of the project was to create synergies and consolidate the initiatives looking at emerging and re-emerging diseases in line with the One Health approach, which involves that human, animal and environmental health are inextricably linked.
The aim was to make progress towards a shared understanding of the knowledge, representations and values and values held by the various stakeholders (local communities, practitioners, researchers, decision-makers) and to propose tools for implementing this approach in a wide range of social, environmental and economic situations. the diversity of social, environmental and economic situations in the countries of Southeast Asia, in order to prevent future health crises.

The project was based on :

  • 20 training topics developed in partnership with universities, research institutes and the private sector, that lead to 23 trainings sessions.
  • 17 regional research projects.
  • Initiatives to promote the One Health approach (symposium, collaboration with the FAO, website, media), including an analysis of the prospects for this approach and the implementation of the guidelines of the One Health 2022-2026 Global Action Plan of the WHO-OAH-FAO-UNEP quadripartite.

The One Health project is intended to be a first step towards structuring a research community
with a view to implementing the global PREZODE programme, launched at the One Planet Summit in January 2021.
